Timing

Nayarit Mexico duck hunts are perfect for adding days to your duck hunting season without compromising days in the blind back home.  Prime dates for bagging waterfowl trophies with excellent plumage are from mid-January through the mid-March. Limited hunting groups accepted December and early January.

$3,990 INCLUSIVE Nayarit Duck Hunt Combo, 4-night, 3-day package, including 3 morning duck hunts and 3 afternoon dove hunts, 6 shoots total. Minimum 4 hunters.

Terms: A 50% deposit is required to reserve hunt dates. Hunt balances are due not later than 60 days preceding your scheduled hunt. There are no refunds. Hunt dates and resort reservations cannot be changed after deposit is paid. GetDucks Travel Protection added to each invoice and due with initial deposit (call to discuss).

Itinerary

Itinerary – Nayarit Mexico Duck Hunting

Arrive to Mazatlan the day preceding you first Mexico duck hunting day. Ypu’ll be met by Nayarit Mexico Duck Hunt staff and transferred to lodge about 2.25 hours south. Following your last hunting day, enjoy a final night.  Airport transfers are usually 7:30-8 AM, arriving to airport 2-3 hours preceding you scheduled flight.

Field Report

After first visiting in March 2023, was extremely excited for the potential this new  duck and dove hunt in Nayarit Mexico represented in terms of its authenticity, hunting quality, and all-inclusive value. Even though it was not yet online, clients in the know blew up our phone and email, and I accompanied 5 weeks worth of client hunts in 2024. It was even better than remembered–and not only because they’d built a beautiful new lodge. From mostly dry blinds in small potholes, the duck hunting and shooting volume was everything expected. As for the dove hunting, it was the bar-none best I’ve ever experienced in Mexico. Stationed in deep shade near almost-ready-to-harvest milo, it felt as familiar as home and I truthfully looked forward to it every afternoon.

All 2024 clients returned with fully-plumed trophies, enjoyed the authentic Mexico atmosphere, raved about the fresh-from-the-local market foods, and bragged to me about the staff services. Except for a single date, all clients got their cinnamon teal. I even managed t scratch the first fulvous whistling ducks personally taken in North America! The staff here consists of simple, hard-working Mexicans that are sincere in delivering a great experience for their new American amigos. This Nayarit duck hunt in Mexico will be all-inclusive, including everything except flying to Mazatlan and ammo. There’ll be no hinting at or strong arming for tips. Getting There – Mexico Duck Hunting Nayarit

Direct flights daily directly into Mazatlan, Mexico (MZT).  Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Mexicana, Northwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, US Airways and WestJet handle international traffic to and from Mazatlan, Mexico, with flights from the US cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis.  Airport transfers are included with the Nayarit Mexico Duck Hunt for your convenience.

Trophy Duck Species – Mexico Duck Hunting Nayarit

January through March, many North American duck species that are desirable to sportsmen and collectors alike are in prime breeding plumage.  The following duck species are common to Mazatlan Mexico duck hunting:  Northern Pintail (Anas acuta), American Wigeon (Anas americana), Black Belly Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis), Canvasback (Aythya valisineria), Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata), Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera), Green-Winged Teal (Anas crecca), and Blue-Winged Teal (Anas discors), Redhead (Aythya americana),  Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis), Gadwall (Anas strepera).

Shovelers and the teal trio comprise the bulk of birds bagged.  Getting your trophy ducks back home is easily accomplished with paperwork and protocol, but your trophies must be consigned to a USDA-apprived Establishment (taxidermist) with HPAI credentials.  Forms and instructions provided. PLEASE NOTE: Black-bellied Whistling and Fulvous Whistling ducks are listed as CITES species and require special permits. Permits require minimum 30 days to obtain from Mexico officials. You’ll be unable to personally transport them to US after the hunt.

About the Area – Nayarit Mexico Duck Hunts

Nayarit is distinguished by its rich natural attractions, from its National Marshes (considered one of the most important wetlands in Mexico) to its incredible, remote beaches, and flora and fauna. The Marismas Nacionales–San Blas mangroves, a network of coastal Pacific lagoons and tidal mangrove forests, extend along the state’s northern coast and into adjacent Sinaloa state. The mangroves are home to abundant wildlife, including migratory and resident waterbirds. It is bordered by the states of Sinaloa to the northwest, Durango to the north, Zacatecas to the northeast and Jalisco to the south. To the west, Nayarit has a significant share of coastline on the Pacific Ocean, including the islands of Marías and Marietas. The economy of the state is based mainly on agriculture and fishing.

Aztatlán colonization of the western Mexican coast – including parts of Sinaloa, Nayarit and Jalisco – as occurring as early as 900 AD, with some evidence suggesting it might have been as early as 520 AD. Encountered on the western coast by the Spanish invaders in 1500, the cultures were descended from these original Aztatlán settlements. In the colonial period, the port of San Blas was one of the most important trade ports on the American Pacific coast.

Nayarit is predominantly an agricultural state, and produces a large variety of crops such as beans, sorghum, maize, tobacco, rice, chiles, peanuts, melons, tomatoes, mangoes, bananas, and avocados. Beginning in the late 90’s, Nayarit has become known as a producer of specialty Arabica coffee, In addition to these crops, livestock and fishing are also central to the local economy. Approximately six percent of the land in Nayarit is pasture land, with the most common livestock. Nayarit has 289 kilometers of coastline, which provides an abundance of fish and shellfish, including bass, snapper, oysters. 

What Do You Eat – Nayarit Mexico Duck Hunt Combo

Meals reflect the authentic culture of Nayarit Mexico. There’s no set menu. Instead, they select food from what’s fresh in nearby markets. Expect specialties such as genuine tacos, made-from-scratch guacamole, made-to-order breakfasts, fresh fruit daily, tuna ceviche, snook ceviche, shrimp ceviche, boiled shrimp, steak, fried shrimp, raw oysters (as requested), chicken adobe, pineapple chicken, smoked snook, grilled tuna, crab meat, duck poppers, dove poppers, chicken wings, fresh salad, slaw, pork chops, Arrachera (beef strips), shrimp kabobs stuck in pineapple, grilled tuna, jicama (Mexican yam bean), pork ribs, stuffed mushrooms, chicken mole. Desserts include ice cream (fried or regular), flan, cheesecake, and other favorites.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTES – Mexico Duck Hunting Nayarit

Hunters that try to import ammunition without the proper permits discover the ugly consequences.  This is a serious criminal offense in Mexico, so don’t dream of trying it.  Firearm and ammunition is available there. Unable to import firearms because the Mexico military is located 2 hours north and cannot reliably be there to process your shotguns.

PLEASE NOTE: Black-bellied whistling ducks are listed as CITES species and require special permits. For this reason you’ll be unable to transport them back immediately after the hunt.
