Dear Mr. Russell,

I just wanted to take a minute and send a quick note regarding my recent trip to New Zealand for duck hunting.  When I originally contacted you regarding the hunt, I had planned to travel a couple weeks later than what the trip dates finally became.  With your feedback, we decided to move the trip up, so we could be in New Zealand for opening day of the duck season.  So glad we took this advice.  Opening day was a tremendous success and the following days were action-packed.  Our hosts knew we had come to their country looking for five species and they all worked hard to get us our birds.

Ramsey, I give the New Zealand duck hunting trip my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.  The hosts are knowledgeable, professional, and eager to please their guests.  On opening day, our hosts gave us preferential treatment when it came to assigning hunting blinds (mai-mais).  While I felt this was unnecessary, I certainly appreciated the gesture when the birds were flying.

I hope to take my sons to NZ in future, so they can enjoy gunning exotic waterfowl in Kiwi country.

Big thanks to GetDucks.com, as well as our significant others, for a terrific Mazatlan Mexico duck hunting trip!  Mazatlan is not just about the ducks – we spent the afternoons with our wonderful wives and had a blast!

The food is excellent and very inexpensive! Shrimp and spiny lobster are in big supply and available at every restaurant. The view isn’t too shabby either!

There is so much to do there sight seeing, shopping & other silly stuff that girls wanted to do.  We didn’t even touch the amazing fishery available!

“The Mazatlan Mexico duck hunting trip was to celebrate my 20th anniversary to wonderful wife, Tracie. We wanted to do something a little different for us, and something we would both enjoy.

Long story short, Ramsey Russell with GetDucks.com hooked us up with a great trip to the Mexican Pacific coast, which just happened to also offer great duck hunting! We invited several good friends, and were lucky enough to have Warren, his wife Dianne, and close friends (and fellow veterinarians) Dane and Cindy join us.

The resort was beautiful, and we were greeted to our view of the Pacific Ocean from our balcony.  We spent the late afternoon and evening enjoying the sites and a walk down the beach.  For the next 4 mornings, we were treated to some of the best duck hunting I could imagine, within 1.5 hours of the resort. Limits for all of us every day. We were often back to the resort before our ladies had finished breakfast!

Regarding birds, shovelers were EVERYWHERE, and therefore constituted a chunk of our bag. We also got into the green-wing teal for sure, even blue-winged teal (our warm winter even short stopped most of the bluewings and cinnamons, unfortunately…oh well, a reason to go back!) We had one day of nothing but bluebills (well, almost all bluebills, Warren had to whack a shoveler.). I was lucky enough to get several wigeon and a black-bellied tree duck.

The rest of the day was spent either sightseeing, shopping with the ladies, or just doing NOTHING at the pool. I NEVER get to do NOTHING, so this was a special treat!

Evenings were for enjoying the UNBELIEVABLE sunsets and eating amazing seafood.  We returned home reluctantly last Friday night. It was an unbelievable trip on so many levels. Certainly it won’t be the last time.

A quick word on safety in Mexico. The American media and the Dept of State would have you believe you can’t safely poke your nose off the plane anywhere in Mexico. At least where we were in Mazatlan, no one even looked at us sideways. We encountered plenty of other Americans and Canadians who had no complaints and wouldn’t go anywhere else. The shops, resorts, restaurants were very friendly and safe. I want to go back, preferably today.”
